Stellenbosch has been home to one of the most unique Jewish communities in South Africa. In the same streets that saw the architects of apartheid like Verwoerd and Malan formulate their ideas, Jews not only lived, but flourished, leaving their indelible marks on the history of this picturesque town. This session describes fascinating and humorous interactions between an Afrikaans town, the formidable institution of the Dutch Reformed Church, and a congregation of Lithuanian Jews.
