Gustav Mahler, the tortured Jewish musical genius, foresaw the tragedy that was to befall humankind in the 20th Century. Dennis will discuss and play musical extracts from Mahler’s 2nd and 9th symphonies, and will explore how this was reflected in his music. This will also facilitate a discussion of the Jewish conception of death and hope.
